DEA Medication Take Back Day: drop-off point at KPD on April 28th, 10am-2pm

On Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 10am to 2pm, the Kearny Police Department will be hosting a collection point for unwanted medication disposal as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) National Take Back Program. The collection point will be held in the Community Oriented Policing office located on the Forest Street side of police headquarters.

Take Back is a program that allows citizens to anonymously drop off unwanted medications at the collection point. No one will be asked for identification and the medications will not be inventoried. The police department just asks that no sharps, such as needles or broken glass, be dropped off under this program.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
